Olmara Camp
Olmara Camp, located in the wide open, grassy expanses of the Eastern Serengeti, is one of only two sites in this picturesque environment, beside Namiri Plains. They are more than a half-hour apart and more than 45 minutes from Seronera’s center. Olmara’s environment, with grassy plains teeming with big cats and hyena clans, is typical of an East African safari destination. Lions scream at night, hyenas laugh at dawn, and cheetahs prowl the savannah throughout the daytime.
The Facts
Olmara may not be as luxurious as Namiri Plains, but for the price, you can’t go wrong. The camp is made up of eight independent rooms that are private and personal. One of these eight tents is a family unit made up of two interconnecting apartments, each with its own private lounge area. Made for families of up to five, it is ideal for spending time in the middle of the day while not on a game drive. An additional open rooftop extension on two of the tents serves as an ideal stargazing spot, making honeymoons that little bit more memorable.
Wildlife sightings are often favorable all year, especially given the abundance of big cats in the area. The migration can normally be seen from the end of November to June, though this varies depending on the wildebeests’ movements. If the wildebeests are not in close proximity to the camp, day journeys into more central or southern locations are feasible, giving you the freedom to have a superb safari experience.
Prices start at around $550 per person per night sharing during the low season (November to mid-December and March to May) on a full-board basis and rise to $800 per person per night in the high season (January and February, June to October, and December’s Festive Period), which is fantastic value for an area known for its excellent game viewing.
