Tarangire Sopa Lodge
Tarangire Sopa Lodge. Probably the best of the Sopa lodges in Tanzania since it provides a rather private experience (given the amount of rooms) and is in an excellent location for wildlife viewing. Being a Sopa lodge, it is rather antiquated, but it serves as a fantastic money saver in a prime location inside the park. Ideally, you’d like to stay a little further south at Olivers or Swala, which are more expensive but well worth it. They are in excellent sites and are modest tented camps.
Tarangire Sopa Lodge: The Facts
Tarangire Sopa Lodge is located in the park’s northeast corner, about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from the northern town of Arusha. The primary portions of the resort are actually very fun. The resort features wide open rooms, long archways, and characteristic Tarangire safari decor.
The makuti-style thatched roof over the reception and dining area is impressively high, and, like the Ngorongoro Sopa and Serengeti Sopa Lodge, it offers a sense of safari grandeur with excellent floor-to-ceiling views. The restaurant’s food is consistently superb, and with a rooftop barbecue area and poolside tables, choosing where to eat may be as difficult as deciding what to eat!
Each of the 70 rooms has all of the basic amenities, such as air conditioning, a balcony, and a shower, and the pool is a great spot to go for a round swim around the quite prominent central reservation, which has a few sun loungers.
The Sopa is centrally located in Tarangire, providing superb safari options in all directions.
