Kaskaz Mara Camp
Kaskaz Mara Camp. Located in the northern Serengeti and just a stone’s throw away from the majestic Mara River and the Great Wildebeest Migration, is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a traditional Tanzania safari with a lodge feel. It’s as spacious as the guidance is excellent.
Kaskaz Mara Camp: The Facts
Ten large–and we mean huge–tents enjoy their own little slice of the Serengeti here, complete with everything you need for a pleasant stay and exhilarating game drives. While you’re under canvas, comfort is the concern, with big bedrooms, relaxation areas, and breathtaking Serengeti sunsets.
While there is no air conditioning (there rarely is on safari, and if there is, you’re definitely in the wrong place), there are airy, huge netted windows that keep you away from the bustle outside your tent. Each tent may be designed to suit any gathering size, from families to honeymooners. The camp also accepts children aged five and up, and the engaging guides ensure that they are thoroughly engaged every day while on safari.
The under-canvas vibe is essential on a Serengeti safari, and here you can experience the thrill of immersing oneself in the huge open plains while also indulging in some more comfortable amenities. This is not the same as traditional camping.
Outside, Kogatende is an absolutely fantastic nature area. From July until October, and occasionally into November, the plains are dotted with brown spots and grunts from the Great Wildebeest Migration.
Hearing the pounding of thousands of wildebeest as you awaken to the morning sun is rather remarkable. You may also have the opportunity to witness a famous river crossing, as wildebeest hurtle into the Mara River in large numbers, often hundreds at a time.
Outside of these months, Kogatende is alive and well: the Serengeti has the highest concentration of predators on the planet, so there is always something thrilling to witness.
Aside from wildlife drives, Kazkaz provides walking safaris (always with an armed guide and not suitable for young children) and hot air balloon rides (at an additional cost).
