Kimondo Camp Tanzania | Tanzania Safari

Kimondo Camp Tanzania | Tanzania Safari. Kimondo is a premier premium mobile tented camp. It takes up two important places for the annual big migration: the North and South Serengeti. In the north, it shares the Lamai Wedge with only two other camps. This means that you will be able to cross rivers without the other vehicles. Asilia guarantees superb hospitality and service, delicious meals, lovely tents, and fascinating guiding.

Kimondo Camp: The Facts

Kimondo camp follows the migration from north to south, avoiding spots in the Serengeti’s center and west in favor of prime locations in two key areas: Ndutu and Lamai.

From June to October, Kimdono is located on the Lamai Wedge on the northern side of the Mara River, across from sister camp Olakira. The benefit of this spot is that there are less motorists crossing the river, making your observations more quiet and private. The river is only a 15-minute drive away, making it an ideal site for witnessing some of these adrenaline-fueled crossings.

Kimondo is located roughly south-west of Ndutu. There are very few campgrounds further west, providing a sense of privacy in what is typically a bustling location. The best time to visit Ndutu is in February. Here, the wildebeest cluster in great numbers, and 8,000 calves are born each day. Predator-prey interactions are also at their peak, making for some fantastic picture opportunity.

The eight tented cabins are traditional, relatively luxurious movable tents. Each has a flushing toilet and a sink with taps, which is fairly surprising given the area. The main area includes a mess tent where wonderful meals are served communally, as well as a second lounge area where you can sit back and relax with a well-deserved drink while discussing the day’s sightings.

Kimondo, like all Asilia resorts, provides an excellent overall safari experience. The guides are enthusiastic and entertaining, the vehicles are open-sided, and the ambiance in camp is designed for excellent game viewing against a backdrop of understated luxury. The service and hospitality provided by the friendly and welcoming staff immediately makes you feel at home.

Although the camp does not offer the opportunity to witness the migration all year, it is one of the best places to go from December to March and around mid-June to October.

Combining Kimondo with some of Asilia’s other characteristics is essential. A typical Northern Tanzania itinerary includes a couple nights exploring the Ngorongoro Crater following an overnight stay in Arusha. Staying at Asilia’s Highlands will present you with the most oppulent and unique accommodations in the neighborhood. The bubble-shaped rooms on the side of the Olmoti Volcano provide stunning views. The Highlands is one of the only lodges in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where we recommend staying three nights due to the abundance of activities available.

When visiting Kimondo, the migration should be your primary focus, so why not combine it with Asilia’s Namiri Plains. For some of the best big cat sightings, particularly of cheetahs, this area of the Serengeti has just opened up to tourists and offers an unforgettable experience.
