Kiota Camp: The Details

A permanent tented camp located in the middle of the central Serengeti. The views from camp are stunning, as they overlook their own valley.

Its great location allows visitors year-round wildlife viewing, particularly in the Seronera Valley, which is known for its large numbers of big cats, including lions and cheetahs. The Great Wildebeest Migration also comes through twice a year, allowing you to fall asleep to the sounds of thousands of wildebeest singing in April/May and again in November.

The camp consists of ten ensuite tents, each with a private covered verandah, flush toilets, and a safari-style bucket shower. There is plenty of opportunity to unwind and appreciate the magnificent surroundings in the middle of the day, between game drives. However, if you prefer an all-day safari, picnic lunches and breakfasts are provided. All you need to do is ask!

There is a huge dining tent, a fire pit for evening campfires, and a separate lounge area with a bar and a well-stocked library. Wi-Fi is available in the living area but not in the rooms, so you can forget about your emails and really immerse yourself in nature.

There is enough to keep you occupied here, including game drives in open vehicles to maximize animal viewing, bush dinners and breakfasts, a romantic private meal under the stars, and nighttime campfires. Kiota is an excellent camp for anyone seeking an authentic safari experience at a fair price, and it complements its sister camp, Chaka Mobile Camp, which migrates from the Ndutu Plains in the south to the Kogatende region in the north of the Serengeti during the Great Migration.

While Kiota works well with Chaka during certain times of year, a normal Northern Itinerary might include an overnight stay in Arusha at Rivertrees before driving to Ngorongoro Farm House or Plantation Lodge. Spending a few days in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area allows you to explore Lake Manyara on your trip to the Crater bottom. The Ngorongoro Crater is a one-of-a-kind eco-system that is home to Africa’s largest beasts, among other things.

A journey to the island of Zanizbar is a must-do to round out your safari. With Tanzania’s excellent domestic aircraft routes, getting to the Indian Ocean island is simple. Pongwe Beach Hotel is a terrific alternative on the island, offering outstanding value for money. Apart from completing your stay on the beach, Zanzibar also allows you to spend a night or two in the cultural center of Stone Town. The Park Hyatt is the hotel of choice here. It is beautifully modern and elegant, and it is in the ideal location for enjoying both beach scenery and city life.
