Ngorongoro Farm House. When you go to the Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara area, the Ngorongoro Farm House is a good deal. The lodge is in coffee fields, and the hills around it are lush and have beautiful views. The lodge feels like an actual farm, and it’s a little more rustic than some of the other places in the area, but it’s cost the same.

The lodge is in the Karatu area, which is about the same distance from both Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara. This makes it a great place to start a driving trip from Arusha.

Ngorongoro Farm House: What You Need to Know

The Ngorongoro Farm House is right next to the Oldeani Volcano and only 5 km from the Ngorongoro Lolduare gate. This makes it a great place to stay on your way to or from Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania.

The main lodge area is under a bigger wooden building that has a bar and a dining room where all meals are served. The whole property has 52 cottages and suites. The cottages are spread out among the coffee fields, but it doesn’t feel like a lodge this big.

You need to bring your own guide and car from Arusha to Ngorongoro Farm House because it is a “drive-in” lodge. The lodge only provides the lodging and not the safari activities. It’s best to stay here for two nights and spend the first day game driving in Lake Manyara and the second day in Ngorongoro Crater.

The cabin can also be used for more trips to see the Hadzabe people or the nearby Lake Eyasi. Even though the Ngorongoro Crater is very famous, you don’t need to stay here for more than two nights. It’s not very big, so a day of game driving here will be plenty.

A usual trip to Northern Tanzania would begin with a night in Arusha. A lot of people use this as a stopover because it gives them time to relax or in case their foreign flight is delayed. You would usually fly to the Serengeti after stopping at Farm House. Your driver would drop you off at the Lake Manyara airstrip. Will usually tell you where in the Serengeti you will be going based on what time of year you go. The migration takes place in the north of the National Park in the Kogatende area from July to October.

Here is where the famous river passes happen, which usually means seeing some amazing wildlife. From November to March, the Ndutu Plains are where the biggest groups of herds gather. The giving birth season starts in February, and for a few weeks, over 8,000 calves are born every day. From April to June, the herds move into the Seronera and Grumeti areas of the park as they head north again.

There are a lot of camps that work well with Ngorongoro Farm House. You can splash out a little more in the Serengeti if you want to because it’s so cheap.

There’s nothing better than going to the island of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean after a tour to relax on a lounger and drink something cool by the pool. If you want to see more art, the city of Stone Town is a great place to spend a night or two before going to the beach. The Park Hyatt is the best hotel in the city.

Many of the beaches on Zanzibar are wet, so you need to be careful. However, there are some hotels and lodges with great beaches. Our favorite beach is Zuri, which is in the north of the island. It has a beach that isn’t affected by the tides, beautiful white sand, and lots of swimming pool beach bars, making it the perfect place to end a trip to Northern Tanzania.
