Serengeti Migration Camp. The Elewana network owns Migration Camp, a luxury Permanent Lodge located in the Serengeti’s North Central sector. We truly like the property, but the primary issue is the location. Yes, it is favorable for migration in early July, but the herds move so quickly that you can easily miss them. There is good resident wildlife here, but because this region of the Serengeti is heavily shrubby and wooded, locating them can be difficult. Depending on the time of year, we would choose a Northern Camp in the Kogatende area to one in the South or West.

Serengeti Migration Camp: The Facts

This camp is located in the rocky outcrops of north central Serengeti National Park, and is best accessed by light aircraft from Lobo Airstrip, which has daily scheduled flights from Arusha. It is also possible to stay in Migration Camp as part of the “sky safari package.”

Twenty sumptuous and roomy tents on hardwood decks, each with a king or twin bed, plush leather sofas, and coffee and writing tables. The tents are en-suite and feature showers and double vanities, as well as a verandah with rocking chairs.

The main section of the resort is really comfortable, with enormous leather chairs and views of the Serengeti. There is a swimming pool, and the lodge is child-friendly.

The greatest time to visit migratory Camp is in July, when the migratory herds rush northward through the Serengeti. It is also possible to watch herds moving south in November. There are essentially only two opportunities to view the Migration on a Tanzanian safari here. The primary activity here is Serengeti safari game drive in shared vehicles.
