When to go to Tarangire. When is the best time to visit Tarangire National Park? When vacationing in Tanzania, the goal is usually to go on a safari, to the beach, or both. As a general rule, the best time to visit Tanzania on safari is between July and October, when the weather is dry and sunny.

As the parks dry out, the shrubs grow less dense, making the animals easier to identify, but also forcing them to concentrate near the surviving water holes. Short rains fall in November (which can sometimes last into December, January, and March) before the long rains of April and May. However, December, January, and February remain ideal months to visit Tanzania.

Tarangire’s temps average in the late 20s throughout the year, thus it never gets too cold or hot. It is largely a dry season park, not because the animals are difficult to see in the rain, but because the animals migrate out of the park during the lower season months. The high season, dry season, and best time to visit is probably between June and November, when you can witness the elephant migration, which is quite magnificent to watch if you are lucky enough to catch it.

During these months, a large number of different grazers and animal species flock to the river bottoms as well. Outside this time, regardless of getting rained on, which happens from November and slowly increases, with the exception of January, all the way to the end of May, the tsetse flies can be extremely unbearable in the more humid months like February… For Tarangire, it’s best to visit during the dry season if you want affordable rates, a close-sided vehicle, and to explore the park alone.
